Sometimes having too many choices is a bad thing.
So I’m going to keep it simple today.
Here’s where I get to let my inner fanboy out and give a little back to the community.
I’m going to recommend five Android Box YouTube Channels that I regularly follow to help make my streaming experience the best it can be. Each of these channels has helped me along the way, so I recommend you start following them too.
I’ve also listed a bonus channel that I’m just starting to follow and also one that you should steer clear of.
The five Android Box YouTube Channels to watch today
TechConnect (Some Cool Tech)
“Awwww…Yeah!”
If you’ve watched a video on Android boxes EVER, chances are good you’ve heard Rivers say those words.
Rivers started covering Android sticks and TV boxes on his Some Cool Tech channel way back in 2012. More recently, he’s rebranded it to TechConnect and branched out to other consumer products like cameras, smartphone accessories, drone tech and even electric lawnmowers. But you’ll still find him covering some of the major TV boxes like MINIX and ProBox.
He’s got great content that looks really sharp since he’s filming on 4K camcorders. This is one channel you should watch on your big TV because the quality is just amazing – especially the 4K videos of Hawaii.
My one complaint is that he might be a bit too optimistic about the products. A product’s flaws don’t seem to get as much attention as the benefits, which may be hard for newbies to pick up on. But if you want to see stuff that you might not see anywhere else, this is the place to look.
Byte my Bits
I don’t write much about Plex, even though I use it all the time for my personal media collection.
When I have a Plex question or just want to learn about the latest new feature that they’re adding, this channel is my go-to.
He covers everything from Plex features, to setup and tweaking, to choosing the best Network Accessible Storage (NAS) for Plex. You’ll find the occasional review that doesn’t fit the Plex theme, but they’re few and far between.
Seriously. If you use Plex, you really don’t need anything else to increase productivity.
Roberto Jorge
A lot of Android box YouTube channels can be shady. Especially when you throw Kodi into the mix.
You have to be careful what reviews you listen to.
This is one reviewer you can trust.
Roberto’s channel actually started out as a “how to” series for Adobe After Effects, but he started doing tech reviews about four years ago. He focuses solely on the hardware side of things, so you won’t find any videos on Kodi or any other streaming services.
Roberto has unbiased content that gives a fair and accurate description of the products. He doesn’t get into too many negatives, but you can count on him to give you all the info you need to know when you want to buy an Android box.
You’ll find nothing but top notch reviews here!
ASBYT
There’s a reason why ASBYT has over 300K subscribers after only two years. This is probably the most entertaining channel on this list.
Sure, he’s got great content revolving around streaming devices and Kodi. That alone makes it worth checking out.
But the real reason why it’s worth following is that he leaves in all of the bloopers so you can see where he messed up. I love it when people don’t take themselves too seriously and can still provide awesome content.
Its the one channel that I can watch something that I really don’t care about and still be entertained. Highly recommended.
Techquickie
It’s Linus. Do I need to say anything else?
While not strictly an Android Box YouTube Channel, Linus Tech Tips has been a staple of the tech YouTube scene for as long as I can remember.
Linus. MKHB. Austin Evans. Jonathan Morrison. Unbox Therapy.
They’re the foundation of the community.
Mad props to all of them.
You should watch TechQuickie’s As Fast As Possible series because Linus takes 3-5 minutes and explains a complicated concept in layman’s terms.
The videos usually have a PC slant to them, so they don’t always focus on streaming devices. But I challenge you look through the video list and not find the answer to at least one of your burning tech questions.
When I want a quick primer on a tough concept, this is where I turn.
Bonus Channel: ReviewDork
I just found this channel not too long ago and I’m really getting in to it a lot lately.
It’s rare to see Android box YouTube channels that cover the Kodi\Terrarium TV\Stremio\”Latest & Greatest Service” scene without obviously shilling for something.
This is one that pulls it off.
Gabe is entertaining and straight to the point. He tells it like it is and doesn’t hesitate to call out people in the community (even Team Kodi themselves) when they mess up or do something hypocritical.
I’m still working my way through his videos, but I like what I see so far. The feud with Solo Man is entertaining as hell, too.
Keep it up Gabe!
Watch at your own risk: Solo Man
Speaking of Solo Man…
Maybe it’s just because I know the industry so well, but I constantly see his videos pushing things that I know are sketchy.
Whether its crap addons or IPTV services, Solo Man’s channel gives you one nugget of mediocre information sandwiched between five minutes of shameless promotion. This goes for his Pros and Cons channel as well.
Honestly, I feel like I need a shower after watching his videos.
I don’t trust his “reviews” and neither should you.
What are your thoughts?
What Android box YouTube channels do you watch? Is there one that should be on this list that’s not? Let me know in the comments below.
Excellent article with some good resources. Also like the mention of Solo Man. I’ve been skeptical of his info for some time now.
SkyStream or EZStream…..Which is the best box?
I’m going to assume you’re talking about the new SkyStream Two vs the EZStream Ti8. They’re both running the AmLogic S912. They both have automatic updates. They’re both way more similar than they are different.
You can’t go wrong with either. But is the SkyStream really worth double the price? It depends…
There’s a full comparison coming soon. But here’s the short version: The SkyStream Two has double the storage, 50% more RAM and a faster processor. Is that worth an extra $100?Maybe. Maybe not. Depends on how you use it.
Always great info, this is the best place in my opinion to get information that is accurate and helpful which is not true everywhere. AndroidPCReview just gives the facts which are what I want and need to be able to make the right decision. Thanks for all the help.
MIKLO
I’ve been following TVBoxStop & Nicholas is very helpful if you have any questions that you’d like to ask. You’d be surprised on how much info he has and knows. On his channel he will also show a variety of functions you can do and use with a tv box like using a gamepad and shows how to key map your gamepad to games, he includes what you would require to do this. He shows a step by step process on how to get it done right. I also like Chigz tech reviews, on his channel he discusses tv boxes as well as other tech stuff in which he features interesting tech that will catch your interest even if you are not looking for a particular item, he will have something featured that will get your attention. But the thing I really like is his Android tv box chart on his website, he has a complete breakdown of the hardware & firmware being used, the SOC, RAM, GPU, etc. that is in each box and a price. He list the best boxes all the way down to the cheapest. He has over 60+ tv boxes listed & each one he has tried personally. His tv box chart is like a super guide or bible on tv boxes. It is well worth looking at to know where your box stands and for anyone who is looking to get one. It is a must see chart & I highly recommend anyone to view. Both Nicholas and Chigz do box testing on each box featured which consist of a variety of testing like the loading and function speed of the box, viewing movies and video in different resolutions, gaming functionality and capabilities, pros &/or cons of each function and more. And like Tim suggested, ASBYT and he is informative as well as humorous. I enjoy watching his channel, and I’ll get a unprepared laugh from something he says or does. He also has an episode on Kodi for beginners which I highly recommend. Good guy to watch. Roberto George is very informative and is unbiased. And Linus who by himself is a computer and tech company, this guy knows everything & I do mean everything when it comes to computer related topics. All of these channels are positively helpful.
